Why Is Happiness Illusive?

“Remember happiness doesn’t depend upon who you are or what you have; it depends solely on what you think.” ~ Dale Carnegie

peanuts_happinessPeople search for happiness all their lives, whether or not they vocalise it, or even consciously realise it. This is everyone’s primary motivation in life. We study hard because we want to attain good results, to get that scholarship to enter a prestigious university so that we can land a job that pays well and hopefully we also enjoy doing.  We work hard because we need our boss’s recognition, to get that promotion, to earn more money to sustain our lives and lifestyles, because buying that Gucci bag, travelling to different parts of the world, having that fancy car make us happy. Because when we become millionaires we want to become billionaires. Because after we attain success we want to be even more successful.  We want to dream the impossible dream and reach the unreachable star.

Then why are people never truly happy with their lives? Because after we have attained our goals, we are again dissatisfied and consider ourselves poorly unless we set a higher goal and drive ourselves towards it. There’s always a wider river to cross, a higher peak to conquer.  Perfectionists cannot be happy people because really, nothing is perfect in this world.  You can marry the most beautiful girl you know and still not be happy.  Someone more attractive with more wit and charm will come along one day and you wonder, what the matter was wrong with my choice!

The key lies in contentment.  Can we say to ourselves that yes, we have attained our goals so we can finally slow down and say we are, or, should be, happy now?  Would I be happier living my life at the beach, needing little except for simple food and lodging with the singlet on my back and the sandals on my feet? Then I wouldn’t need the expensive shoes, bag, car, bungalow etc etc. Then I wouldn’t need to slog my life away at the expense of my health, forgoing time spent with people who matter most to me.  But no, I’m not happy if I think my peers are “doing” better than me.  I want to have what they have and more.

Yet it is precisely discontentment that gives our society the impetus to constantly want to improve ourselves and our lives.  It is this which leads mankind to advances and innovations.  (So perfectionism is a two-edged sword?)

If you think of yourself as a traveller, just passing through in this life, or think of your body as a shell that houses your soul, would all you amass in this life matter so much, after all? How long would beauty, fame and fortune last?  The saying goes – you are born into this world with clenched fists, you will leave this world with opened fists.  That is, you bring nothing with you when you arrive and you shall take nothing with you when you leave this world. In fact, a simple helpful gesture to a stranger can bring both of you happiness!  Hard to imagine but it’s true.  Happiness can be had by just spending twenty minutes a day, watching the evening sun, feeling the breeze on your face, listening to the birds chirping at your window sill or reading your favourite novel.

Leading a balanced life seems to be the answer to this question. At different stages of one’s life, there would be different priorities to fulfill.  In other words, I want to have it all but in a finely tuned balance which I strive to adjust and maintain throughout my life.

So ask yourself this – what would make you a truly happy person?

4 Different Types Of Hauntings

mansion-apparitionWhile there are many different kinds of hauntings that can take place, we generally find that there are 4 which stand above the rest. We will now go over these and go a little in depth with each of them.

Residual
A residual haunting is a haunting in which the being(s) involved are repeating a moment of time. This could be the moments before their death or something else in their life all together. The idea behind this is residual hauntings are nothing more than a memory imprint often left in the environment itself. There have even been cases where you are dealing with both a residual and intelligent being that are one in the same. Though the spirit is not actually there the energy is and can still have a ’cause and effect’ on the living.

Intelligent
This is another very common style of haunting. An intelligent haunting is one where the spirit is there, very aware, and even interactive with the living. These generally involve ‘unfinished business’ where they may be looking for someone or help with a situation. These hauntings can also cause some havoc such as banging, foot steps, and moving objects though not as affectively as poltergeist.

Poltergeist
This haunting is a malevolent one that we often find attached to the living. This attachment usually comes during some emotional or large physical change in the person they are with and generally involves young girls though this isn’t always the case. While there are many varying factors to this haunting, we do find that many have similarities. The rate and power that it interacts with its surrounding is one key factor. General human spirits can do this too but poltergeist do it at a larger and stronger rate.
*note* poltergeist hauntings are often confused with demonic hauntings.

Demonic
Demons come in many varying forms and can be quite hard to identify. They are also rare. A demons purpose on earth is to break down the will of the person or people it has targeted to make way for possession. Common signs of demons is the smell of sulfur and often times there are other spirits in the location. We are unsure if they are being forced or trapped there but we have noticed this to be a semi-common occurrence. We also find that they are very noisy, much like poltergeist. Many other signs are that of standard hauntings. Hence their being hard to identify.

Time for ourselves

There is this reverberating conversation in my head. Words, letters and phrases I have heard many times before. Hearing but not knowing what is said. Listening but having to let go the words as they fill my mind. The consequences of that being heard are grave, but also petty and childish to extreme. They tell of things happening or imagined as happening : I no longer know which, but repeating the same old hang-ups. The same old tired cliché of an unprepared mind. It hangs on to things past when they cannot be changed and the lessons are no longer relevant  to the now.

TimeFrom experience I know only too well what that does to the mind, to the body and to the soul. We misrepresent all the facts changing them to suit what we need to hear, enabling us to carry on doing the same things we have always done. We do not accept that it may be our own fault. It may have been partly from the choices we made in another dimension but we return to the source to provide the backdrop of our life and fail to take into account time, duration and loss.

How much better it would be if we let go. Release to the winds of time and energy all of the matters that once were but should no longer be reflected in our lives. Allow people to move on without regretting their loss but with thanks for their presence for the time they were with us. Remembering only those meetings that were positive and with their movement let go of any real or imagined slight they may have brought to us.

This is not an easy proposition and may well be impossible for some to embrace, but in all we do and say there is power and in reality we are the sum of all we do and say and it is for our own benefit that we need to release the expectations of the past and embrace those of now. It is not always  necessary to challenge the spoken word of others. They are as entitled to an opinion as any. We should however, always be on guard against those who are using the past to justify their actions in the present. We are all here to share this world and as individuals we have the power to lead, where those who prefer to follow along a path that only ensures conflict not contentment and harmony. No words, written or spoken, can be wholly right, as they are said or written by individuals and are a reflection of their mind-set and not that of any other individual.

Do not simply follow, be aware, digest the words and participate in the life we have now. Let go of the past, not the memories for most memories are potent reminders of others, but be selective and work towards positive goals in all we say and think.
